The Vision for St. Michael's Church

Our Mission:
Mobilizing for the Transformation of Hearts Through Jesus Christ

We realize that it is difficult to see hearts transformed unless there has been intentional mobilization (the walls of Jericho fell only after a mobilized march). So under mobilization, we have two key areas of focus: Worship and Administration. That sets up the blessing of transformation. We pray for three kinds of transformation:

Cultural Christian to Believer
Believer to Disciple
Disciple to Mission Apologist

In order to put feet on transformation we will be using three key ministry tools. First, we have found that the Alpha ministry is simply the most fruitful tool we have for this first kind of Cultural Christian to Believer transformation. Secondly, the Beta ministry under the Rev. Dr. Peter Moore brings our Believers into a deeper sense of Discipleship, both through Biblical study and small groups (life groups). The third tool is, Gamma to prayerfully develop Mission Apologists (those who can communicate faith to the world and workplace). We are still developing this arena.

Now, let it be said that the reason we want to see transformation is so we can make an impact on the world!

In the final part of our vision (Transforming Hearts through Jesus Christ) we pray that hearts in and beyond St. Michael’s would be transformed in Jesus. The question is which hearts?

Jesus in Acts 1:8 urges his disciples and all of us to be his witnesses in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria and the Ends of the Earth. I wish Jesus said “or” instead of “and”! What this means is that we need to translate these four locations into “Charleston speak.” We have and we call them the four H’s.

Jerusalem: Hearts and Homes of St. Michael’s
Judea Hearts in the Holy City
Samaria Hearts in the Hurting Coast - (Richmond to Maine)
Ends of the Earth Hearts in Ukraine, Burundi, and the 10-40 window
(that section of the globe that has never known the name Jesus or seen a Bible)

We call our 4 “H” team the Action Team.

With all of that said we have divided our leadership structure into three simple teams:

Mobilization
Worship
Administration

Transformation
Alpha
Beta
Gamma
