A Look Back at Palm Sunday – by Jessica Wood

When we begin the Sunday school all the children gathered in the Chapel to begin our treasure hunt event.  4k-5k formed one group, 1st-2nd formed another and our 3rd-5th graders finished off the last group. Each group had a leader and that leader had clues to each location.

We had a station where the children got to see Jesus washing the disciples feet, then they experienced the washing themselves. At another station they got to meet the donkey (Wen Jen) who carried Jesus into Jerusalem, as they learned about Palm Sunday. In another room they sat at the table of the Last Supper and shared in the moment of the breaking of bread and pouring of wine with Jesus. In the Graveyard they followed Jesus as he made his final prayer crying out to God. Then finally back to the Chapel where we walked the Stations of the Cross learning what Good Friday is all about.

Once all the children found each location and experienced them, we gathered together to line up for the Palm Sunday Procession. We paired older children with younger so they could help watching out for each other. Then we lined up and headed to the church. Once we entered into the church, Wen Jen made his famous entrance. It was sweet to see the children glow as he walked into the church. Then the Choir Children sang. They all did a wonderful job! After the music we started to continue around the church as each person followed Wen Jen as he led the way. It was a wonderful Palm Sunday.

Thank you to Jeannie Martin and her team for bringing the joy of children singing into our church.  A special thank you goes out to all our volunteers who helped to bring Palm Sunday to life for our children: Catherine Templeton, Lizzie Smith, Joanna Ghegan, Elizabeth Zadig, Molly Young, Caroline Sanders, Swain Marian, Kathy Hare, Capers Cauthen, Laura and Robert Gruber, Susannah Hubbell, Dan Polasek, Wen Jen (our fearless Donkey), and all the parents who stepped in to help with the procession. Thank you all for making Palm Sunday so successful.  We could not have done it without you.
Blessings,
Jessica Wood
