What’s a QR Code and why would I want to use it?
A QR code means Quick Response code. It’s a barcode that is readable by camera phones and when scanned opens your phone’s web browser.
QR codes can be used in Google’s mobile Android operating system via both their own Google Goggles application or 3rd party barcode scanners like ZXing or Kaywa.
For iPhone, look up QR code reader in your App Store and download any of the free apps.
With Blackberry devices, the App World application can natively scan QR codes and load any recognized Web URLs on the device’s Web browser.
The QR code was created for convenience and aimed at smart phone users and with a majority of the population moving towards smart phones, we decided this could be useful for St. Michael’s to use as well.
You may be seeing this QR code more and more in the wrap, messenger, brochures, and posters. I hope it helps both the congregation find information fast and our staff acquire information from the congregation.
Don’t worry, you can still e-mail, call, mail, whatever you prefer. It’s just a new way to communicate and I encourage you to try it. If you have any questions or need help getting it set up, feel free to come by the church office and I’ll be glad to show you.
