Letters to the Rector

Father Al,
I attended the 8 AM service today. I’m the United Methodist pastor who was getting a chance to not be in the lead.

Thanks for the kindness and grace of you and the St. Michael’s congregation. I received what I needed.

I especially appreciated the soloist, whose elegant style was very welcome. I was singing the song she sang the rest of the morning.

I also appreciated the few words you and I shared. God’s grace was made real to me in those moments.

I attended St. Michael’s in 2006 and met your predecessor. I am pleased for you and the congregation that you’ve found suitable partners in each other. It always impresses me to see congregations who understand how to select suitable pastors time after time.

Blessings,
Mike Gillen

Although I am a Roman Catholic I could  not help last week attending your service the bells enticed me. I had been visiting Charleston for a couple of days on a Conference and while walking around Sunday morning came upon your wonderful House of Faith. I was lost at first and spoke to a couple of people as to the procedure etc. etc. for attending church. My gosh I was astounded at the hospitality of your congregation. Upon entering I explained my predicament to one of your Ushers I believe or else he was attending for the family reunion, without hesitation he invited me to join himself and his wife in their little box, I think the gentleman’s name was Aspley or Asberly about 4th box back from the pulpit on your left hand side. The Choir were out of this World and when it came to the part where I could write a prayer request which is unheard of up here in Canada, (a little bit of history I am originally Irish but moved to Toronto 20 years ago). I queued up and met with two wonderful ladies to the right of you 2nd balloon down. I never thought I would say this but the spirit certainly touched me that day it was very emotional and I have never felt such a wonderful presence of being at peace in my entire life it was like all my worries disappeared, I basically prayed for my parents who are now deceased and my family and friends at home here in Canada and in Ireland. I was thoroughly in awe of your sermon and although a frequent church worshipper myself up here I have never felt at such ease in my Church as I did down there with you and your Congregation. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I would like you to extend my sincere thanks to both Mr. Aspley?? and the two Ministers who rekindled the spiritual fire that has been missing in me for so long. THANK YOU, THANK YOU & THANK YOU
