Reflections on Baptism & Confirmation

It began as a confirmation class out of the Alpha course.  However, it became so much more!  This past Sunday, we baptized two adults and confirmed, received and reaffirmed 17 others.  It was an amazing day!  Normally we have baptisms on the 3rd Sunday of every month and then confirmation in the Spring. While that rhythm hasn’t changed, we simply added to it an idea that came out of the Alpha conference last summer.  We realized that to have Alpha in the fall and then wait for all those folks to be confirmed in the Spring was too long of a wait and we were losing too many people through the cracks.  So, we decided to tweak the system a bit.  After the last fall Alpha session, we held what we called the “I Like Mike” course for 3 Tuesday nights in row after that last Alpha session.  In that course, we covered:

  • Anglican History
  • The History of St. Michael’s
  • What we believe
  • The mission, vision and values of St. Michael’s

It was a wonderful group with a great spirit.  So, in the next editions of the Messenger, you will be able to read their testimonies of faith as they join the St. Michael’s family.  This brings even greater excitement to the Winter Alpha courses as we look to see what our Lord Jesus Christ does with that group!
