Reflections on Kanuga

I must admit I was a bit skeptical about the programs being offered at Kanuga this year.  An acting troupe?  Our family had attended Kanuga two years ago and the memories of Bishop Lawrence and his story of coming to Christ was still emblazoned on my mind.  I couldn’t come to terms with how some actors were going to move me in the same way as Bishop Lawrence did. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good play as much as the next person but a weekend with Christian actors really wasn’t appealing.  But with the realization this may be the only opportunity my 8 year old son would ever get to see snow we decided we would go.  At least sharing a weekend with our best friends and the square dancing would be worth the trip.  Yes, square dancing.  I never expected square dancing would be an activity my whole family would participate in and enjoy!  So Friday night I was pleasantly surprised with the short skits the Friends of the Groom performed.  On Saturday morning, I was really impressed that the performances were interactive, engaging and thought provoking.  They gave you a different view of biblical stories you had heard told many times before.  You have to really pay attention if you are expected to be a part of the “storm” in the story of Jonah.  During the break on Saturday morning another person said to me “their performance made me laugh and then moved me to tears all within about 5 minutes.”  The children (grades 2 -5th) made some amazing Imagination Machines, and the audience was involved in almost every skit and in the end we all got a great back rub.  Thank you Peter for finding these fabulous actors.  I can’t wait to see them again!  To sum it up in one word… Bravo!
