My morning prayer and study time has changed.
Making a long story short, I used to pray using my Anglican Fellowship of Prayer Journal, and then read the word. I would do all of this in the early morning from my bedroom.
But in February, while in London, something happened that began to change my morning “rooting” time. I came across a well put together Bible in a year, complete with logical connections between the Old and New Testaments. I used this Bible as my resource for the Word. After praying and reading this way for several months, over the summer decided I needed not just to read the word, I needed to study and journal the word. The first step was to place myself in a posture of study. So now, I kneel and pray using the Anglican Fellowship of Prayer journal, and then, go downstairs to a desk, a bright light, a notepad and the Bible in a year. That change of posture has made all the difference as I feel more awake to receive what God has to tell me through his Word. I have never been hungrier to pray and study. Somehow this small change has given big dividends in my walk and relationship with Christ that then overflows in my family and daily ministry.
The reason I write this, is that as we get into another beautiful yet demanding season of life and ministry (back to school, and other autumn demands) moving through in a Biblically ‘rooted’ way is so critical. I love Jeremiah’s words in chapter 15: When your word came to me Lord, I ate it for it has been my joy and my delight…
As you hit this new season, how is your prayer and study time? Let me recommend the NIV Bible In a Year, it will provide that anchor for your busy life.
