The 2011 Leadership Summit

I elected to devote my 2011 continuing education time and resource to this topic of both leadership and the art of surrounding oneself with great leadership as well as producing great leaders.  The 2011 Leadership Summit answered that call and more!  Can you imagine over a 48 hour period…37 breakout sessions, 8 plenaries and conferencing in between, all on leadership!  The quality of each talk was exceptional.  Here is a snippet from a wonderful talk given by the youngest Bishop in the Anglican Communion, The Rt. Rev. Paul Williams.  Bishop Williams is Bishop of the Kensington section of London.  He passionately taught in plain clothes on the need for developing leaders.  Here is the cliff notes bullet point review of what he said:

  • Jesus focused on developing not leaders, but followers of Jesus Christ
  • Jesus was highly selective in the people he chose
  • Jesus developed others in the context of a purposeful team
  • Jesus delegated responsibility and authority, not just tasks!
  • Jesus gave more attention to issues of character and vision than structures and strategy
  • Jesus created a climate that was friendly, open and enquiring
  • Jesus prepared people to anticipate future crises, and future glory

Again, this is a quarter of what the good Bishop said, but these are principles that can be used in the marketplace, in banks, in law and medical offices and schools!  By the way, you can hear many of the sessions from the leadership summit by clicking on the website of Holy Trinity Brompton.
