Vision Sunday!

Where there is no Vision, the people perish….  Proverbs 29

The Rev. Michael Breen kicked off Vision Sunday and had a very thought provoking sermon on what he called the Four T’s. In this sermon based on Luke 10, Michael challenged us to think about reaching the people of peace in our lives for Jesus Christ.  He defined the people of peace as those folks who are a part of our everyday lives, ie. the gardener, the librarian, the grocer, the Starbucks host, etc…  He urged us to use the message Jesus used, which was simply to tell the people of peace in our lives that “God is near them, what you need him to do for you?”  He summed this up in the four T’s. That is go out in a TEAM.  The smallest unit of a team is two, therefore go out with your spouse, friend, colleague in this endeavor.  Secondly, who will be the TARGET?  Who are those people of peace in your life?  Thirdly, pray for God’s TIMING.  Identify those whose hearts are already being prepared by the Holy Spirit.  Finally understand the TASK.  What is God asking you to do with them?  Share your story?  Invite them to Alpha or your life group or lunch or worship?

As part of Vision Sunday, we also passed out a feedback survey.  If you were not here on Sunday, please fill out the form below and it will email confidentially to me, Al Zadig.

If you are not familiar with the Mission & Vision of St. Michael’s, here is a refresher.
MISSION Defined:  Our Purpose:  Why Do We Exist?
VISION Defined:   A picture of the future that creates passion now Where is Jesus calling us?
The Mission of St. Michael’s: To Transform Hearts Through Jesus Christ  (Romans 12:2)
Unpacking the Mission: Our foundational purpose is to see hearts transformed into the image of Jesus Christ.
Three key transformations:

  • From Cultural Christian/agnostic to Believer  (Alpha)
  • Believer to Disciple  (Beta)
  • Disciple to Witness  (Life Groups)

The Vision of St. Michael’s: To transform hearts in the Home, Holy City, Hurting Coast, Hungering world  (Acts 1:8)
Unpacking the Vision: We believe Jesus is calling us to Transform hearts in something we call:  The 4 H’s

  • Home: Transforming the heart within every home of St. Michael’s, young and old, married and single
  • Holy City: Transforming hearts in the Holy City of Charleston, a focus on urban hearts
  • Hurting Coast: Transforming hearts in the key mission field we call the Northeast (from Richmond, VA to Maine, the most dire mission field in the United States)
  • Hungering World: Ukraine, Burundi, And other areas that include the 10-40 Window.  The 10-40 window consists of those regions of the eastern hemisphere located between 10 and 40 degrees north of the equator (Roughly Asia and Saharan and Northern Africa), a general area having the least access to the Christian message and Christian resources on the planet.
