Okay, be honest; when you hear the word “mission” you think of a dozen or so great people going on the road to help others come to Christ. Certainly that’s one definition, but what we have found at St. Michael’s, specifically through our Hurting Coast mission is that our mission is now working in reverse! What do I mean? Two examples: Immediately following the mission trip to Dorchester, I received a text message from the Rev. Dan Rogers (Rector, Christ the King Church) who said I just heard about your ministry to St. John’s on Hanover Street in Charleston, we would love to take a team there and offer ourselves in anyway needed! Amazing! That wasn’t on our radar when our partnership with Christ the King began.
The second mission in reverse event happened with the need for surgery for our own Elizabeth Hunter. Elizabeth needed surgery involving her pregnancy, so when her husband Bryan said they were going to Boston’s Children’s Hospital, our mission network went to work. The Rev. Dan Rogers was prayerfully able to minister to Bryan and Elizabeth when they arrived and during their stay in Boston. Please keep the Hunters in your prayers, but isn’t it amazing to see how God works in reverse sometimes? I think of those beautiful words of Paul in Ephesians 3:20-21:
Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation in the church and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.
