Pentecost Authority

May 24, 2021 Preacher: The Rev. Alfred T. K. Zadig Jr Series: Pentecost

Last week we celebrated the power of the Ascension.  The Ascension is that moment Jesus left the physical presence of the disciples, to sit at God’s right hand, signifying His authority as God and Coronation as King.  I said that the Ascension could be compared to Kennedy Space Center’s Launching Pad.  Yes, Jesus going up to heaven but leaving his Disciples to be His witnesses and agents on earth, meaning we have authority!

Today we come to Pentecost.  Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem. If the Ascension is the launching pad, Pentecost is the jet fuel in our bones! This means that through the fuel of the Holy Spirit we have authority to be the witness of Jesus in the world.  Paul’s letter to the Corinthians gives us an accountable check list to claim that authority.  I pray we will leave here on this day of Pentecost claiming authority of our Holy Spirit given gifts to be used to transform the world!
